PUNE: The court of special judge D R Mahajan recently granted bail to Colonel Anil Kumar Singh of the National Defence Academy (NDA) in the alleged recruitment scam of class IV employees at the NDA.
Singh, president of the NDA recruitment board was released on bail as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had failed to file chargesheet against him within 60 days of his arrest.
Singh’s lawyer S K Jain had filed a bail plea after he came to know that the chargesheet had not been filed. Jain cited a Supreme Court ruling stating that his client was entitled to claim bail if the chargesheet was not filed. CBI special public prosecutor Vivek Saxena pleaded to impose stringent conditions on Col Singh as he was involved in a serious crime.
Judge Mahajan granted bail to Singh only after asking him to furnish Rs 2 lakh personal bond, Rs 2 lakh solvent security and depositing Rs1 lakh in the court.
Singh was directed to remain present in the court during the proceedings, not to pressurise the prosecution witnesses and not to leave Pune.
He has also been barred from visiting the NDA campus.
The court had earlier granted bail to seven suspects including Colonel Kulbir Singh, Suhas Waghmare, Manoj Shitkal, Dattatray Shitkal, Balkishan Kanojia, Vishnu Sharma and Ramesh Gaikwad as the CBI had not filed chargesheet against them.
