Pune: The Bishop’s School in Camp has recently inaugurated a new academic building aimed at strengthening its educational infrastructure and supporting the needs of a growing student community.
The newly constructed block is designed to provide additional learning spaces and modern facilities for students. School authorities said the building forms part of the institution’s long-term plan to enhance academic resources and create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by members of the school management, teachers, alumni, parents and guests. The project was completed with support from distinguished alumni Dr Cyrus S Poonawalla and Adar C Poonawalla, whose contributions helped accelerate the development of the facility.
Speaking on the occasion, principal Shane Macpherson said that the rich legacy of The Bishop’s School, which spans more than 160 years, has been strengthened by alumni such as Dr Poonawalla. He said the institution’s new state-of-the-art facility has become a reality because of the Poonawalla family’s generous support and will greatly benefit students’ overall development.
Macpherson said the new block reflects the institution’s commitment to providing quality education through improved infrastructure. Established in 1864, The Bishop’s School has expanded over the years and today operates campuses in Camp, Kalyani Nagar and Undri, serving more than 6,000 students.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Cyrus Poonawalla recalled his years as a student at the school and said the institution had played a major role in shaping his life. “The Bishop’s School not only gave me an education but also laid the foundation for my entire life. Whatever I am today is largely because of this institution,” he said.
On the occasion, Dr Poonawalla also announced an additional contribution of Rs 10 crore towards future development projects and student-focused initiatives at the school.
