AURANGABAD: Parbhani student Karan Kalani has topped the general merit list of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC, Std X) examination in Aurangabad division with 96.61% marks.
The exam was conducted by the Maharashtra State Board for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education in March. The Aurangabad division comprising Aurangabad, Jalna, Beed, Hingoli and Parbhani districts recorded an 83.71 per cent result.
Kalani, a student of Queen's English School, secured 628 marks out of 650.
Three candidates from Aurangabad notched equal marks 626 or 96.30% to share the second spot in the general merit list. They are Pratik Patil of Sant Meera Vidyalaya, Utkarsha Suryavanshi of Sharda Mandir Girls School and Harshada Patil of Sonamata Vidyalaya.
Three others shared the third place by bagging 625 marks (96.15%) each. They are Neha Palwankar (Sanskar Vidyalaya, Beed), Abhishek Lahoti (Vidyavardhini Vidyalaya, Parli Vaijanath) and Ayesha Tamboli (Queen's English School, Parbhani).
Utkarsha Suryavanshi and Harshada Patil have also got the distinction of standing first among girls, followed by Neha Palwankar and Ayesha Tamboli. The third position among girls is claimed by three candidates who have obtained 624 marks each. They are Punam Mane (Shivaji Vidyalaya, Beed), Shruti Dalvi (New High School, Thermal Power Station, Parli Vaijanath) and Puja Kakani (Shri Siddheshwar Vidyalaya, Majalgaon, Beed district).
Mukesh Salunke of Jaibhavani Vidya Mandir, Aurangabad stood first among backward class (BC) candidates by bagging 619 marks (95.23%). The second position among BC candidates (with 618 marks) was shared by Sheetal Savant (Vivekanand English High School, Parbhani) and Warisa Wahedkhan (Shri Saraswati Niketan High School, Vasmatnagar, Hingoli). The third-ranked candidates among BC candidates with 617 marks include Jyotsana Ghaitilak (A K Waghmare High School, Aurangabad), Kanchan Vaishnav (Sharda Mandir Girls School, Aurangabad) and Akash Dhakane (Sanskar Vidyalaya, Beed).
Ashish Junghare of the Maratha Night High School, Aurangabad stood first among night school candidates by securing 497 marks (76.46%). Vishal Thorat of Shrinath High School, Paithan came first among disabled candidates with 604 marks (92.92%).
The Aurangabad division conducted the SSC examinations at 523 centre for students of 1,967 schools. Out of 1,44,722 candidates who registered for the examinations, 1,20,891 emerged successful, taking the division's passing percentage to 83.71 %, a statement issued by the Aurangabad division chairman Bhalchandra Desale and secretary Sunil Chavan said.
