Politicos back townships
Pune: With the city's population growing at a rate of 2.2 to 3.5 per cent per year, it has become essential for the state and the civic administration to develop Pune on Mumbai's lines - through satellite nodes and townships. Thankfully , the politicians too are in favour of the move.
MP Suresh Kalmadi said, "We are all for the satellite townships. The city is not in a position to accommodate more people.
1x1 polls
I will pursue the matter with the Union government."
Pratima Joshi, director of city-based research group Shelter Associates, welcomed the initiative and said that the middle-income groups, which can't afford accommodation in the city, would definitely move out if options are available. "If good and low cost transport is provided, people would be more than happy to shift out of the city limits," she said.
