Pune: Safety certification for Metro route by next week

PUNE: The safety inspections of the Vanaz to Garware College stretch of the Metro had been completed and the final certification of the commissioner of Metro rail safety was expected early next week, the MahaMetro said.
The last leg of inspection of stations, viaduct and railway track was conducted a couple of days back. The team of the commissioner of Metro rail safety (CMRS) visited the stations and also inspected the safety provisions for the commuters and running of trains.
A MahaMetro official said, “The inspections of the stretch have been completed. We are expecting a certification from the CMRS by next week. Safety provisions are in place at the track and the stations. All the stations on this stretch are ready for functional use.”
Five stations are located on the Vanaz-Garware College route, including Garware College, Vanaz, Nal Stop, Anandnagar and Ideal Colony. The certification will clear the section for launch for the commuters. The Metro’s PCMC to Phugewadi section has already received the CMRS certification.
“We are planning to inaugurate both Metro stretches at the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 6,” mayor Murlidhar Mohol said, adding that various civic projects, along with the Metro, were to be launched in the PM’s presence.
“The work of the Metro stations will continue. As of now we are readying the stations on both routes for functional use. Every station will have at least one access from both sides of the road. The works like beautification of station, provision of additional amenities will continue,” another official from MahaMetro said.
