The Yerawada police on Tuesday arrested Rahul Amolik (20) from a restaurant in Chandannagar and seized four country-made pistols and 10 cartridges worth Rs 1.62 lakh from him.

PUNE: The Yerawada police on Tuesday arrested Rahul Amolik (20) from a restaurant in Chandannagar and seized four country-made pistols and 10 cartridges worth Rs 1.62 lakh from him.
Police said Amolik is a resident of Tuljabhavaninagar in Kharadi. He was going to sell the firearms to someone in Chandannagar.
A team led by senior inspector Kishor Jadhav nabbed Amolik based on a tip-off received by Jadhav said police constable Tushar Alhat.

"Assistant inspector SL Dubal and his team reached the restaurant and nabbed the suspect, who was later identified as Amolik. They searched his bag and found the weapons in his bag. Amolik has claims that someone from Uttar Pradesh had asked him to hand over the bag to a person in Chandannagar. He was promised Rs 20,000 as commission for trafficking the weapons," Jadhav said.
Jadhav said one pistol costs around Rs 40,000 whereas the cost of 10 cartridges is Rs 2,000. "Amolik also revealed that the person from Uttar Pradesh had promised to pay him Rs 20,000 as commission for trafficking these weapons," he said.
Amolik has previous criminal records. "He has two cases of vehicle thefts registered against him with the Yerawada police station and Airport police station. We are investigating further," Jadhav said.
The investigating team comprised police constables Sunil Kulkarni, Mohan Valke, Sachin Kadam, Kira Khedkar and Chetan Gaikwad.
