CG swims to Day 3’s shores with three medals, K’taka tops charts
Raipur: While Chhattisgarh bagged three medals, Karnataka maintained its lead on the third day of the Khelo India Tribal Games at the international swimming pool in Raipur on Friday. Karnataka has become the first state to cross the 10-gold mark. The state ended the day with 13 gold, five silver, and one bronze medal, with its entire gold haul coming from swimming.Karnataka swimmer Manikanta L continued his streak, winning two gold and one silver medal on Friday. With a personal tally of eight gold medals, he is currently the most successful athlete in the competition. Odisha holds the second spot with six gold, two silver, and nine bronze medals. Assam follows in third place with two gold, four silver, and two bronze. Host Chhattisgarh is currently tied for seventh place with Tripura, having secured six medals, including three silver and three bronze. Chhattisgarh athletes won one silver and two bronze medals on the third day. Anushka Bhagat claimed her third silver of the tournament in the women's 50m backstroke. Nikhil Jalko won bronze in the men's 50m breaststroke, while Nyasa Paikra added a bronze in the 100m butterfly. Maharashtra and Arunachal Pradesh secured their first gold medals of the meet on Day 3. Tanvi Dhurve of Maharashtra won the women's 100m butterfly. For Arunachal Pradesh, Anai Wangsu won gold in the 58 kg weightlifting category, while Richin Chongruju took the top spot in the 79 kg category. In the women's 50m backstroke, Karnataka's Meghanjali won gold, ahead of Chhattisgarh's Anushka Bhagat. In the men's section, Manikanta L won both the 50m backstroke and 100m butterfly. Dhuneesh N added to Karnataka's tally with a gold in the 50m freestyle.In weightlifting, Arunachal Pradesh's Anai Wangsu lifted 169 kg for gold in the 58 kg category. Odisha's Bidu Smita Bhoi won the 63 kg category with a 195 kg lift. In the men's events, MH Silvan Beharothatlo of Mizoram won gold in the 71 kg category, while Richin Chongruju of Arunachal Pradesh led the 79 kg category.
