Chhattisgarh's Sherjin bags bronze in senior national fencing; girls qualify for Goa National Games

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh’s R S Sherjin bagged the bronze medal in the Epee event of the 33^rd Senior National Fencing Championship 2023, played at Pune in Maharashtra from March 24 to 28. With this, he has staked a claim for the national games.
In the individual Epee event, he defeated his Delhi counterpart by 15-1, defeated his Madhya Pradesh counterpart in a nail-biting finish by 15-14 and Punjab fencer by 15-10 to enter the quarter finals.He defeated the hosts team by 15-14 in a close finish to enter the semifinals. However, he lost the semifinal to SSCB fencer by 10-15 to settle for the bronze medal.
Similarly, Chhattisgarh fencers Jyotika Dutta, Monika Sahu, Rupali Sahu and Tulsi Manikpuri have qualified for the Goa National Games in Epee team event.
