IIT Bhilai to host ecological & cultural sustainability course
Raipur: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhilai's Centre for Culture, Language, and Traditions (CCLT) is hosting a residential winter school called 'Commoning the Commons' in collaboration with the Foundation for Ecological Security (FES) from Dec 9 to 13.
The inaugural keynote address will be delivered by Prof Dinesh K Marothia, President of the Indian Society of Agricultural Economics. Distinguished speakers at the five-day programme include Dr Purnednu Kavoori from Cense India, Dr Lavanya Suresh from BITS Pilani, Hyderabad, former principal chief conservator of forest Dr R.K. Singh from state govt, and Dr Soma Kishore Parthasarathy.
This certificate programme aims to enhance understanding of ecological commons as essential resource systems that impact daily lives across all societal levels. Participants will explore communing practices whilst developing comprehensive insights into environmental challenges, climate issues, and socio-economic disparities in Indian society. The programme has selected participants representing academia, civil society, and grassroots organisations.
The CCLT was established to foster research in cultural heritage, indigenous knowledge, endangered languages, and sustainable development. Its focus includes highlighting the linguistic diversity, cultural pluralism, ecological knowledge, and collective memory of Chhattisgarh and India.
