NGO conducts 102nd cleanliness drive in Raipur

RAIPUR: The non-profit organisation of cleanliness freaks-Bunch Of Fools are carrying out cleanliness drives in different parts of the city on Sundays since November 2, 2014. This Sunday, the group organised their 102nd cleanliness drive in Mangal Bazar locality to inform residents to make their region free of open defecation zone (ODZ) and performed a 'nukkad' play to inform residents about ill-effects of open defecation.

Bunch Of Fools conducted the cleanliness drive in support with Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC). Hence, the group organised a platform called 'Çhaupal' to facilitate the exchange dialogues on problems and suggestions between the residents and RMC officials.

Talking to TOI, Bunch Of Fools’s fonder Satish Bhuwalka said, "Our message is 'do-it-yourself' and our organisation spends for the tasks from our pockets. My group involves more than 100 voluntary members aged between 18 to 60 years old and are from different walks of life and have always remained pro-active in carrying out cleanliness drive tasks including collecting garbage, washing and colouring walls and continue transforming city into new."

Though Mangal Bazar falls in old area of Raipur city it’s an integrated part of main city, which is also the residence of RMC’s "Safai Karmchari", so the Bunch of Fools chose the spot to make it free of ODZ on this Sunday.

RMC Commissioner Rajat Bansal also turned up for the cause and learnt the problem’s of residents and appreciated the efforts of members of Bunch Of Fools for cleaning the area and creating the social awareness on various issues.

The voluntary members did wall paintings to save girl child and maintain the environment clean and healthy.

From railways station’s litter zones to dump-yards across city, these youths have converted them into waiting zones and cricket pitch.

Till date the group has cleansed 102 sites in city, out of which the founder Satish claimed there are 100 sites on which the group had worked to make it spick and span 70 sites have almost maintained its cleansed status, 20 sites remained fifty per-cent successful in maintaining the cleanliness and 10 sites were already RMC’s dump-yards so which used for their purpose hence could not live-up to the status.
