MOUNT Abu: If all goes right, this hill resort may soon get a skywalk on the lines of the one at Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon skywalk is a U-shaped metallic walkway jutting out over the rim of the canyon that gives tourists the thrill of walking over the gorge. Other projects in the pipeline are a ropeway from Honeymoon Point to Bhairu Track and an amusement park at Dayanand Saraswati park.
The three projects are among several others that the urban development ministry of Rajasthan has planned for its major cities.
A presentation for the skywalk, the ropeway as well as several projects ranging from roads to parking to water and sewerage were made to the Rajasthan government recently.
The projects are planned under the Swiss Challenge Approach, where a private sector firm submits an unsolicited proposal and draft contract principles for undertaking a project and the government then invites competitive counter bids to derive maximum benefit out of these projects.
"The selected proposals will be forwarded to related committees for clearance, after which the promoter company will be asked to develop a detailed project report," said G S Sandhu, principal secretary, urban development and housing (UDH) department.
A meeting held under the chairmanship of Sandhu inked the proposal for the cities where various amenities, facilities will be made available. Proposals hanging fire for past many years for Mount Abu have been cleared. Detailed project reports for the same have been asked for.
