RAJKOT: Tightening the noose around Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) youth wing leader and student activist, Yuvrajsinh Jadeja, the Bhavnagar police detained his three aides in the Rs one crore
extortion case lodged against them.
Police detained Yuvrajsinh’s brother-in-law (sister’s husband) Kanbha Gohil from Surat, Bipin Trivedi and Ghanshyam Ladhva.
Addressing reporters, Bhavnagar range inspector general of police (IGP) Gautam Parmar said, "Bipin Trivedi and Ghanshyam Ladhva have admitted to having taken 10% commission in this extortion racket. We have initiated the process to recover this amount."
On Friday, police had lodged an offence against Yuvrajsinh and his five aides for allegedly extorting Rs one crore from Prakash alias PK Dave and Pradipi Baraiya, two out of the 38 accused in the dummy candidates racket. Yuvrajsinh had exposed the racket in a press conference on April 5 and the Bhavnagar police lodged a complaint against 36 people on April 14.
Dave is one of the masterminds of this scandal thriving under the nose of the police and education department since 2012. Yuvrajsinh has, however, claimed that it was flourishing since 2004 and the scamsters had the patronage of present and past BJP leaders.
Cops also made public the CCTV footage and CDRs of all the meetings between PK, Bariaya, and other accused of extortion. They are accused of extorting Rs 55 lakh from Baraiya and Rs 45 lakh from PK in lieu in lieu of not revealing their names in the April 5 press conference addressed by Yuvrajsinh. Meanwhile, police are verifying the 30 names that Yuvrajsinh submitted in a piece of two-page evidence on Friday. However, IGP Parmar said that he had himself interrogated Yuvrajsinh but the latter did not give details that corroborate involvement of politicians as alleged by him.
“During interrogation, Yuvrajsinh said that he gave a statement regarding involvement of politicians to avoid getting arrested,” Parmar claimed. According to the IPS officer, Yuvrajsin has claimed of having materials regarding the recruitment scam but said he would submit them to the authorities at an appropriate time.
