Yuvrajsinh’s 2 aides in cop custody

Rajkot: A local court in Bhavnagar on Sunday sent two aides of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) youth wing leader Yuvrajsinh Jadeja, to six-day police remand in connection with Rs 1 crore extortion case against them.Police had on Saturday arrested Jadeja and three of his aides — Kanbha Gohil (brother of Jadeja’s wife) from Surat, along with Bipin Trivedi and Ghanshyam Ladhva. They were charged for extorting Rs 1 crore from two accused in the dummy candidate racket. Investigating officer in the case Ashwin Khant told TOI that Trivedi and Ladhva had taken Rs 10 lakh each as part of their 10% commission of the extortion amount from Jadeja. “We have sought remand to know where they have parked the money or where they have used it,” said Khant.He added that while Trivedi was a government school teacher, Ladhva was the principal in another government school in Bapda village.On Friday, the police had lodged an offence against Jadeja and five of his aides for allegedly extorting Rs 1 crore from Prakash alias P K Dave and Pradip Baraiya, two out of the 38 accused in the dummy candidates racket. Jadeja had exposed the racket in a press conference in Gandhinagar on April 5 and the Bhavnagar police had lodged a complaint against 36 people on April 14.According to the special investigation team (SIT) formed to probe the alleged dummy candidate racket, Dave was one of the masterminds of this scandal thriving since 2012. Jadeja, however, alleged that the racket was flourishing since 2004 and the accused had the patronage of present and past BJP leaders.
