GARHWA: Traffic on Garhwa-Murisemar stretch of NH-75 came to a halt for nearly two hours on Sunday, as angry villagers of Bana Mahua village blocked the highway to protest the death of a boy.
Roshan Paswan (7), son of Uday Paswan, a resident of Bana village under Meral block of the district, was crushed to death by a speeding truck, police said.
"The agitators were demanding compensation to the kin of the deceased.
The blockade in the highway threw traffic out of gear, with vehicles seen stranded at both sides of the roads," said police.
On getting information, Meral police station in-charge Chetnanand Sinha along with a police team rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the agitators. But the villagers were adamant demanding compensation to the kin of the deceased that included Rs 1 lakh, Indira Awas Yojna and a job.
The blockade was lifted on assurance of Garhwa SDM A Muthu Kumar and Meral BDO Kiran Soren. The SDM assured the agitator of conceding to their demands. "The blockade was lifted by the villagers on assurance of adequate compensation," said the SDM.
