Dumka woman, daughter run over by train

Dumka: A woman and her minor daughter died after being hit by a train near Hasdiha on the Dumka-Bhagalpur section on Thursday.
The husband of deceased Aarti Kumar, Vikki Mandal, told police, "Aarti might have died by suicide after she was stopped from visiting her parents."
The couple was married in 2020. The couple's daughter was identified as Beauty. Vikki, a native of Odtara village, runs an eatery.
Prakash Kumar Singh, the officer in-charge (OC) of Hansdiha police station, said, "Vikki, in his statement, claimed that Aarti's brother arrived to take them to her parents. When Vikki denied permission, Aarti became extremely distressed ended her life along with her daughter."
Aarti, who was familiar with the train schedule, jumped in front of the Dumka-Bhagalpur passenger train while holding her daughter, eye witnesses told police.
The bodies were sent to the Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem, police added.
"A case of unnatural death has been registered. Probe is under way," Singh said.
