Heat relief initiative: Dhanbad installs shade nets at busy intersections; aims to protect commuters from extreme temperatures
Dhanbad: The district administration has installed temporary shade nets at major traffic intersections and busy roads across the city to give some protection to commuters, pedestrians and two-wheeler riders from direct heat when they wait at signals.
The initiative was launched under the direction of deputy commissioner-cum-district magistrate Aditya Ranjan as temperatures
The administration said the primary objective is to provide immediate relief to people, especially two-wheeler riders and pedestrians, who face the maximum hardship during peak afternoon hours.
Aditya Ranjan said the mercury has risen considerably in recent days, making it difficult for people to remain outdoors for long durations.
“Those stopping at traffic signals are particularly vulnerable to heatstroke and dehydration,” he said.
The administration appealed to residents to avoid unnecessary afternoon travel, drink sufficient water before stepping out, and follow traffic rules while using the shelters. Residents and commuters welcomed the move as people-friendly.
Dhanbad continued to reel under intense heat on Sunday as the temperature remained unusually high at around 44 degrees Celsius.
