Narrow escape for woman and daughter as house goes up in flames in Sahibganj

Dumka: A woman and her daughter had a narrow escape from death on Tuesday as they managed to slip out in time of their burning house in a village in Rajmahal block of Sahibganj district. Cash and goods worth thousands of rupees and livestock perished in the blaze.Noorjahan Bibi, a widow, was sleeping in her room of the thatched house in Manasigha Walitola village with her daughter when the fire broke out. The duo escaped their house and raised an alarm. Soon, neighbours rushed in an tried to douse the flames. The house and several items turned to ash by the time fire engines reached the village.Former Nagar Panchayat Chairman Ketabuddin Sheikh visited the site upon hearing the news and provided immediate relief materials to the affected family. The victim has appealed to the administration for compensation.Rajmahal block development officer Mohammad Yousuf said, "The victim will be compensated once they submit an application detailing their losses.”
