Sale of induction cooktops, other appliances surges in city

Ranchi: Disruption in LPG supply has begun affecting households, with delays in cylinder deliveries prompting many families to look for immediate alternatives like induction cooktops and other appliances.

In Ranchi, sales of these electric appliances have surged over the past few days. Retailers said customers worried about gas availability rushed to buy such appliances. Several shops reported that stocks were running out within hours of being displayed. At an outlet in Karamtoli, a store representative said the demand was unusually high since the LPG disruption began.




“Induction cooktops are getting sold out within four to five hours of arrival. As soon as fresh stocks reach the shop, customers purchase them immediately,” said Swarnam, a retailer, adding that the store has already placed additional orders to meet demand.

Shop owners said most buyers were opting for affordable models. Induction cooktops currently available in the market are priced between Rs 1,500 and Rs 4,000 depending on brand and features.

“People are not waiting for premium models. They are buying whatever is available so they can manage daily cooking if gas cylinders are delayed,” said Sunil, a retailer in Lalpur.

Retailers said the spike in demand over the past few days was far above normal sales trends. Dealers in appliance markets such as Main Road, Bariatu and Upper Bazar reported that dozens of induction cooktops were being sold daily, compared to only a few units on regular days.

“Earlier we would sell five to six induction cooktops in a day, but now more than 25 to 30 pieces are getting sold quickly whenever fresh stock arrives,” Swarnam added.

Buyers said the purchases were largely precautionary as uncertainty over LPG deliveries continued.

“We have a gas connection but cylinders are not arriving on time, so we bought an induction stove to manage basic cooking for the family,” said Anita Verma, a resident of Harmu.
