Ranchi: Fifteen men, claiming to be members of Tritya Prastuti Committee (TPC), a breakaway faction of the CPI Maoists, set ablaze two transport heavy vehicles at Swastik stone chips mine near the Indo-Tibetan Border Police camp under the Kanke police station area on Tuesday night.
Police said the miscreants arrived at the mines and overpowered the security guard. They inquired about the mine owner and also snatched away his mobile phone. The intruders left the place after setting the vehicles on fire.
Rural SP Naushad Alam and senior police officers reached the spot and started search operations. DSP Mumal Rajpurohit said, “Even though the miscreants told the guard that they were members of TPC, the police are verifying their claims. The police have recorded the statement of the guard and secured closed circuit television camera footage to trace the intruders.”
According to the police, there was no demand for levy from the stone crusher owner in the past. They said that Kanke area did not have history of TPC activities and their movement was not noticed in the recent past also. The search operation was underway in the area on Wednesday as well.
According to sources, the armed miscreants did not wait for long being aware of the nearby ITBP camp on the Ring Road to avoided any confrontation. They were quick in setting fire to the vehicles, which was doused by the other truck drivers who were present on the campus. Sanjay Sahay
