Two persons posing as custom officials and extorting money from transporters on NH-33 were arrested, police said on Sunday.

Jamshedpur: Two persons posing as custom officials and extorting money from transporters on NH-33 were arrested, police said on Sunday.
The duo was nabbed in Gurabanda in Ghatshila sub division in East Singhbhum on October 1 following a complaint lodged by one Syed Ejaz Ahmed, a transporter, at MGM police station.
The accused were identified as Paramjeet Singh (40) and Sushanto Bera (27), residents of Ballygunge and Tiljala, respectively, in Kolkata.

The police seized a luxury car, an airgun, a walkie-talkie set and Rs 50,000 from their possession.
The MGM police station in-charge, Raju, in a press communiqué said the probe team has seized a blue beacon light, the fake ID card of an assistant commissioner of customs, Union customs and excisedepartment, besides a stamp ink pad of the customs department from their possession.
The police also recovered an airgun, a set of walkie talkie, and Rs 50,000 cash which the fraudsters had extorted from the transporters. “To give an impression that they are genuine officials, they used the beacon equipped car to stop the trucks,” read the statement.
