Ramgarh: The Ramgarh district police administration has recovered “unaccounted” cash of Rs 6 lakh from a car in poll-bound Ramgarh assembly constituency on Saturday night. The seizure was made on the Ranchi-Patna road at Chutupalu valley during a vehicle checking drive. The car was on its way to Ramgarh from Lapung in Ranchi.
Sub-divisional officer cum returning officer Md Javed Hussain said that as many as six check posts have been set up on highways and other connecting roads passing through Ramgarh to curb illegal flow of cash, arms, ammunition, liquor and other prohibited items which could influence the polls.
“A magistrate deployed on NH-33 check post seized the cash. Persons travelling with car informed that the cash was meant for buying some machine. We are verifying it,” he said, adding that a panel headed by deputy development commissioner (DDC), Nagendra Kumar Sinha will inquire into the cash seizure issue.
The process of filing nomination for the Ramgarh bypoll is underway and will conclude on February 7. The bypoll will be conducted on February 27 and the counting of votes will be held on March 2. Unaccounted cash of Rs 1 lakh was earlier recovered from the car of senior Ajsu Party leader Roshanlal Chaudhary’s elder brother in a check post on the Ramgarh-Bokaro highway.
Chaudhary, however, had claimed that cash was being ferried to his father-in-law in Ranchi's Silli locality for an urgent need.
