Youth dies by suicide in Hazaribag; family alleges harassment by businessman and police
Chatra: A 26-year-old youth, Saurabh Kumar Sinha, died by suicide at his residence in Krishna Vihar, Shivpuri mohalla, Hazaribag on Sunday. His family has accused a local businessman and his police inspector brother of harassment, which allegedly drove him to take the extreme step.
Saurabh, who worked at Renuka Vastralaya near Bengali colony, was accused of embezzling Rs 1.14 lakh by the store owner, Amit Agarwal. Though both parties had reached an agreement for repayment by March 2023, with Saurabh already returning Rs 30,000, the family claims he was continuously harassed.
According to Saurabh's father, Sujeet Kumar Sinha, Amit Agarwal and his brother, a police officer posted in Ranchi, allegedly pressured Saurabh, leading to depression. The family also reported that a sub-inspector visited their house on Saturday, though local police deny this claim.
Bada Bazar outpost officer-in-charge Bittu Rajak has assured a thorough investigation, stating that action will be taken if evidence of police involvement is found. The body has been sent for postmortem to Sadar hospital.
The family has demanded action against both Amit Agarwal and his brother.
