65-year-old man beaten to death in Salem

SALEM: A 65-year-old man was beaten to death here late on Monday night. The Ammapet police have arrested four persons in connection with the incident on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as K Arumugam, a resident of Babu Nagar in Ammapet. He was a construction labourer. He is survived by his two wives and three children.
On Monday night, Arumugam was sitting outside his house.His neighbour V Murali, 38, came to his home in an inebriated state. On seeing this, Arumugam asked him for consuming alcohol regularly. “Irked over this Murali attacked Arumugam,” Ammapet police said.
Meanwhile, Murali’s family members also attacked the victim with wooden logs.
“Arumugam who sustained severe head injuries succumbed on the spot,” the police said.
The police have registered a case and arrested Murali and his three family members. The accused were lodged at Salem Central Prison.
