SALEM: Chief electoral officer Archana Patnaik has directed the Pudukottai district administration to take action against village administrative officer S Madeswaran who was found campaigning for his wife, Revathy, who is a DMK candidate in Yercaud constituency in Salem district.
A video of Madeswaran, a VAO in Pudukottai district, campaigning for his wife went viral in social media.
“Madeswaran had sought the DMK ticket for himself in Yercaud assembly constituency, but the party later named his wife as its candidate,” an election department official in Yercaud told TOI. The officer added that Madeswaran had accompanied her to the constituency and taken part in door-to-door canvassing with party workers.
After learning about the video, Salem district election officer and collector A Arun Thamburaj sent a report to the chief electoral officer. “The CEO directed the Pudukottai district administration to take necessary action against Madeswaran,” Arun Thamburaj said.
Officials instructed him not to take part in campaigning. Attempts to contact Madeswaran were unsuccessful, as his phone remained switched off.
