BHOPAL: A 20-year-old woman, whose wedding was just days away, was found murdered with her throat slit near the Madhya Pradesh–Uttar Pradesh border in Niwari district, while a young man’s body was discovered hanging barely 100 metres away.
The incident was reported from the Pucha ki Pahadi area in Dhimarpura.
The woman has been identified as Varsha Kewat (20), a resident of Sagar district, while the man has been identified as Harendra Kewat (24), a resident of
Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh. Police suspect the man killed the woman before taking his own life, though the exact sequence of events is yet to be confirmed.
Varsha had been missing since Saturday afternoon. After failing to trace her, family members lodged a missing person complaint. Police tracked her mobile location, which led them to the MP-UP border area.
When a police team reached the spot on Sunday evening, they first found the woman’s body with her throat slit. A search of the surrounding area led to the recovery of the man’s body hanging from a tree at a short distance.
Family members said Varsha had left home around noon on Saturday and did not return. The man’s family said he had also been missing since Saturday afternoon and that they were informed about the incident by relatives in the area. Police said no suicide note was found from the spot. A knife, suspected to be the weapon used in the crime, was recovered near the woman’s body.
