SALEM: The Salem Municipal Corporation has begun repair of damaged roads and sewerages in all the 60 wards in the city. The corporation will spend Rs 8 crore to repair roads and Rs 23 crore to repair sewerages.
The sewerages in the corporation’s four zones are more than 30 years old and are in a very bad condition. As a result, sewage is stagnated in several places.
Corporation's engineering department officials inspected damaged sewerages recently. "A total of 400 places were identified in four zones, 100 places in each zone. A project report was sent to the municipal administration department for technical approval. After getting the approval of the department, repair of sewerages has started,” said an official.
"Engineering department officials identified the damaged roads in all the wards. The contract was awarded, and work has begun," the official added.
Meanwhile, the SMC has begun construction of a building in Paul Market area at a cost of Rs 5 crore.
