Dy CM stresses on upholding ethics
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh deputy chief minister Mukesh Agnihotri on Saturday emphasised the role of media in upholding the ethics and principles of journalism.
Presiding over a state-level function held to mark National Press Day, Agnihotri narrated his own experiences as a journalist, and touched upon the challenges the mediapersons faced during that era. In an era dominated by social media, journalists face unprecedented challenges and have a greater responsibility to disseminate accurate and reliable information to the public, he added.
Speaking on the theme ‘Changing nature of Press’, the deputy chief minister said truth, objectivity, transparency and impartiality are expected in journalism. He emphasised that the media is responsible for presenting important social events, govt-related information, and other relevant details to society based on truth and facts.
The role of social media is expanding rapidly, he said, but the freedom of the press should be protected at all cost.
Agnihotri said the dependence on AI and Google services would not make journalists true professionals. Human intellect is shaped through the process of learning, which is influenced by a range of experiences and situations, he added. tnn
