Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh high court on Thursday directed the state drugs controller to decide the complaint within two weeks which alleges that medicine Feracrylum API and 1% Feracrylum Gel, which are homeostatic polymers, are not as per prescribed formula or composition.
Disposing of a petition moved by Themis Medicare Limited, Justice Sandeep Sharma made it clear that the authority concerned shall also afford an opportunity of hearing to the petitioner and all other state holders and pass a speaking order thereafter. The court also said if the petitioner still remains aggrieved, it is at liberty to approach the appropriate court of law.
Feracrylum is normally used to control bleeding from wounds and burns, and it also acts as antiseptic.
The petitioner had submitted before the court that despite repeated complaints and representations with regard to spurious and substandard drugs being manufactured by many pharma units in Baddi, no action is being taken by the concerned authorities because of which the health of the public is at risk. The court also observed that it is also true that before any drug is launched, it is tested in laboratory wherein apart from checking standard, the composition of medicine is also checked but having taken note of allegations contained in the complaint, the state drugs controller is directed to decide the complaint preferably within two weeks.
