HP cops launch drive against drink driving, 290 arrested in one week
Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh Police has arrested 290 people for driving under the influence of alcohol, issued 1,246 challans, and recommended 483 driving licences for suspension in a week during its ongoing drive across the state.
The most number of challans (143) were issued in Solan district, followed by 134 in Mandi and 133 in Shimla district from Sept 24 to Oct 1.

The most number ofarrests (51) were made in Mandi, followed by 39 in Baddi (Solan district) and 36 in Bilaspur district.
The police have launched a stateside campaign against drink driving, which will continue till Oct 8, to tackle the menace of driving under the influence of alcohol, prevent road accidents and promote a culture of safe driving.
During this drive, as many as 46,901 vehicles were checked across various districts. The police have urged the public to follow traffic rules and report any instances of drink driving to the nearest police station or by dialling 112.

Drink driving is one of the major causes of road accidents and the ongoing police drive is part of its commitment to make the roads safer for the public.
This drive is part of the strategy to ensure that violators face appropriate consequences, thereby acting as a deterrent to others.
