SURAT: Police booked an Ejaz Lakdawala, an alleged associate of underworld gangster
Dawood Ibrahim, on Monday for allegedly issuing threats to city BJP minority cell member Abdul Kadar Ahmadali Wadiwala (60).
The Lakdawala had threatened to shoot Wadiwala by calling him over phone from abroad. However, he did not make any specific demand. Police are also not sure why the businessman threatened.
Wadiwala, owner of a fuel station, alleged in his complaint that he received a call on October 25 from a foreign country which he did not receive. Later few other calls also came but he did not answer. Ultimately, he received a message claiming to be from Ejaz Lakdawala.
“The sender had threatened to shoot Wadiwala. The sender used term ‘Uda Dunga (Blow up)’ to terrorize the complainant. He also mentioned his name as Ejaz Lakdawala,” said a police officer.
Initially, Wadiwala did not take it seriously but later decided to lodge a police complaint.
In recent past, a realtor from city had received a ransom call from gangster Ravi Pujari.
“We are yet to find out that from which country the message was sent to Wadiwala,” said a senior police officer.
“We are not taking it lightly and necessary actions will be taken,” said Satish Sharma, city police commissioner.
