Two brothers assault PSI after ruckus at police chowki
Surat: Two brothers were booked for allegedly assaulting a police sub-inspector (PSI) and a head constable after creating a ruckus at Umra police chowki under Utran police station limits on Saturday afternoon. The accused, identified as Pinal Chauhan and Jay Chauhan, had been called to the chowki to record their statements in connection with a quarrel case. However, they allegedly misbehaved with police personnel, hurled abuses, and accused the police of favouring the other party after accepting a bribe.According to a complaint lodged by head constable Pravin Shamjibhai, he and PSI D D Rathod were on duty at the chowki and handling complaints on Saturday morning. Among the pending complaints were two cross-complaints filed by Mital Agrawat and Neha Chauhan, residents of Rajnandini-3 Society, against each other.Police had called Neha to record her statement, but she informed them that she was out of station and said her husband Pinal would come instead, as he had witnessed the quarrel. At around 4.45pm, while police were recording another complainant's statement, Pinal and his brother Jay arrived at the chowki. When asked to wait for some time, one of them allegedly began shouting and accused the police of taking a bribe to support the other side. The brothers also allegedly threatened police personnel, saying they would get them dismissed from service. They then went outside the chowki and continued shouting allegations, causing a commotion and drawing a crowd.PSI Rathod went outside and asked them to maintain peace. As onlookers gathered, he requested the brothers to come inside the chowki and discuss the matter. However, police alleged that both brothers then assaulted Rathod, causing minor injuries. Other police personnel intervened and rescued Rathod.Utran police later registered an offence against both the accused, who are on the run, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for assaulting a public servant on duty, obstructing official duty, criminal intimidation, and using abusive language.
