Civil hospital gets 18 security guards to keep an eye on anti-social elements
THANE: The
In the past six months, a new-born was kidnapped, a girl was allegedly raped and a woman accompanying a patient was molested. With an aim to ensure that such incidents do not take place again, the hospital authorities have deployed 18 people for its security.
“It was important to do something for the safety of women and children in the hospital. As soon as I got the charge I ensured that security personnel were deployed. We have stationed 18 people in the hospital, six of them women.
Seeing the past incidents it was necessary that something had to be done for the safety of women and children. So as soon as I got the charge I made sure that security personnel are deployed. We have stationed around 18 people in the hospital, six of which are women. They work in three shifts and look after various sections of the hospital. The people are deployed at the main entrance, casualty ward, near my office, some patrol on the premises and the women are posted at the labour ward,” said Dr Kailash Pawar, civil surgeon at the hospital.
The guards, who are working on contract basis have been deployed through a private organisation. The officials stated that they have now applied for security from the government, who will first do the survey of the hospital and then sanction people accordingly.
“We have applied at the Maharashtra State Security Corporation and once they do the survey, their officials will be deployed here. This is to strengthen the security more as these personnel have the power just like police to file an FIR, arrest the accused,” added Dr Pawar.
