Congress' Ulhasnagar district president
Salve said, "due to Talibani Tax (High tax) charged on rental properties many multinational companies outlets have closed their stores in city and many are about to close".
Salve said, "We want that UMC should start charging tax as per the capital value like other civic bodies charging so that business will survive in the city or else no one will buy extra properties inside city to avoid giving it on rental basis due to high taxes".
Rani Agrawal, general secretary of state from Congress party who participated in protest said, "The UMC is charging 73.5 per cent tax on property given on rent by property holders, which is the highest in state and is unfair".
The protestors said that Congress's protest will go for indefinite period till UMC does not abolish this tax and start charging tax on rental properties on basis of capital value like other civic bodies charging across Maharashtra.
Earlier, corporators from all parties had demanded to abolish this tax and a resolution was also passed for the same in the UMC’s general body meeting in 2016.
When asked Yuvraj Bharane, Public Relation Officer of UMC said, "It is true UMC charging 73.5 % tax on rental properties but we are awaiting for GIS survey of property in city and once it is completed UMC will implement resolution passed in General body meeting regarding charging tax on basis of capital value".
