THANE: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (
MNS) MLA Pramod (Raju) Patil targeted the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) administration over the shortage of Covid-19 vaccines in the twin cities.
On Saturday, while launching a free vaccination drive for 2000 auto-rickshaw drivers in the region at Premier company ground in Dombivli, Patil asked, "If we can get the vaccine by buying it from private agencies and can give these vaccines to people, then why can't the KDMC administration do the same?"
Patil pointed out that in the last few days, the KDMC had to suspend the vaccination drive several times citing a shortage of vaccines. "Other cities like Thane and Navi Mumbai have been performing well in vaccination compared to Kalyan-Dombivli. We hardly hear that they have stopped vaccination drives due to shortage of vaccines. It shows that the KDMC administration is failing to get vaccines from the state," he stated.
Patil said that he has managed to buy 2000 vaccines at a cost of Rs 780 each from his personal fund from a private hospital, which he will be giving to auto-rickshaw drivers for free. He also assured that he will organise similar vaccination drives in future as well, subject to the availability of doses.
In the past week, the vaccination drive was conducted only once in Kalyan and Dombivli (July 6). It was suspended for the rest of the days due to the unavailability of sufficient doses.
