THANE: With the city experiencing a drop in temperature, various food festivals have taken centrestage. While patrons get to savour various delicacies, it is an added revenue for women from self-help groups. They also get showcase their culinary skills.
This trend, which began a couple of years ago, has now become a major hit especially during winter season.
"Food festivals are a platform for women to showcase their talent- be it handicraft or cooking. Through this, many belonging to low income groups get a chance of earning some additional revenue," said Suman Agarwal, who was one of the organizers of the recently concluded Rajastani Mahotsav in Thane.
The Agri Koli Mahotsav, which was began on Saturday at Anil Shankar Jadhav ground, opposite Vrindavan, promises to be a lip-smacking treat for customers. Organised by the Maharashtra Koli Samaj Sangha, the event will have a platter of seafood delicacies prepared by expert women chefs from the fishermen community of Mahad, Versova, Kalyan and Konkan.
Like every year, this time too food lovers from the city and beyond will throng to the venue to taste the food of agri, Koli, Malvani and even Rajasthani cultures.
"Such events are a medium for food lovers to get acquainted with new tastes. Traditional recipes and some exotic ones that are sadly vanishing from our menus in this era of Western foods
can be savoured at the fest," said Yogesh Koli, one of the organizers a member of the mahotsav.
