THANE: The second day of the indefinite stir by the class III and IV employees from the civil hospital affected many patients who had come to civil hospital but were denied admission or were forced to move to other hospitals. However, civil surgeon, Dr. Kailash Pawar claimed that operations in the hospital were not affected.
A pregnant woman who was referred to the civil hospital by a government hospital in Shahapur, claimed that she was asked to go to Kalwa hospital for treatment, after waiting for almost two hours at civil hospital.
“We came from Shahapur and when we reached the civil hospital around 8:30am we were told by a nurse that the staff was on strike and the patient will not be admitted. So after waiting for almost two hours I got worried and rushed my wife to Kalwa hospital where she delivered a boy,” said Sunil Mhasmare, farmer.
“We have been taking in patients and even doing operations. On Wednesday, till evening we did around six deliveries. The patients were either going to other hospitals on their own,” said Dr. Kailash Pawar, civil surgeon. — Shrutika Sukhi
