THANE: A seminar was organised by the Institute for Psychological Health (IPH) on Friday for pre-primary teachers across the city. The seminar was to teach teachers how to identify and handle children who are slow learners and have other learning disabilities.
The teachers were trained in ways to guide such students and ensure that they find their creative side and excel in it.
Even though awareness has been created about kids with learning disabilities, many teachers still lack the skill to identify such student, claim city psychologists and counsellors.
‘‘‘Many times students with learning problems are shunned as dumb and are ignored by their peers,’’ claim psychologists.
“Teachers must look out for students who consistently do not do their homework, restless, impulsive and inattentive,” said Dr. Geeta Joshi, clinical psychologist at the Thane based (IPH).
