Thane's water supply hit as Bhatsa river overflows, chokes pump

THANE: With no respite from the intense rainfall since Sunday, the Bhatsa river in Maharashtra's Thane district overflowed on Monday morning, adding to the woes of Thanekars.
Along with the floodwater, grass and leaves from around the river also surfaced and choked the strainer of the water pump installed at the Pise village, through which water is supplied all over Thane.
It resulted in decreasing the flow of water through the pump and thus, the city will receive a low pressure of water supply for the next couple of days,
"Due to the choking up of the pump at the Thane Municipal Corporation's water pumping station at Pise and a blocked flow of water, citizens should note that all parts of the city will have low pressure of water supply for the next two days, starting July 19," the civic body informed.
Officials also asked people to store water and use it sparingly for the next few days and boil the water before consuming it.
Thane has been witnessing incessant rainfall for the past 24 hours, resulting into waterlogging and accidents at several areas. Tree felling and wall collapse incidents have been reported from the city, however, there have been no casualties yet.
Locals have been cautioned against venturing near water bodies and stepping out of their homes without any emergency.
