Chief minister to inaugurate Onam week celebrations at Nishagandhi auditorium
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the Onam week celebrations at 6.30pm at Nishagandhi auditorium on Wednesday. Tamil actor Ravi Mohan and actor-director Basil Joseph will be the chief guests.Besides the main venue at Kanakakunnu, events will be held at 33 venues across and outside the city, including Central Stadium, Poojappura, Greenfield, Shanghumugham, Bharat Bhavan, Gandhi Park, Vyloppilli Samskrithi Bhavan and Museum compound. Over a thousand artists, including prominent persons like Chinmayi Sripada, Biju Narayanan, Sithara Krishnakumar, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Mano, Vidhu Prathap, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Ramya Nambeeshan, Pushpavathi, Najim Arshad, Anju Joseph, Aparna Rajeev and Mridula Warrier will be part of the festivities. The seven-day event will feature musical concerts, dance performances, folk arts, instrumental music, classical music, storytelling, drama, poetry sessions, story sessions, yoga, Kalaripayattu, Kathakali and mega shows across various parts of the district. As part of the celebrations, the city will be adorned with lights. Trade fairs, food festivals and various competitions have been organised. The celebrations will adhere strictly to the green protocol. The Onam week celebrations will conclude with a colourful procession on Sept 9.
