Thiruvananthapuram: The city will bask in festive lights during the
Christmas and New Year evenings, with the state tourism department making extensive arrangements for illuminations. Tourism minister P A Mohammed Riyas will switch on the illuminations installed in and around Kanakakunnu palace on Wednesday evening.
To promote nightlife in the city, the tourism department has planned a theme-based illumination this year and promise an unforgettable luminary experience to residents as well as visitors.
The public can experience the illuminations till 1.00 am every night till January 1.
Besides the premises of Kanakakunnu palace, illuminations will embellish the stretch from Museum police station to Jawahar Balabhavan. At the entrance of the Kanakakunnu palace a 40 feet in long and 8 feet high reindeer and chariot installation will be set up apart from hundreds of smaller reindeers, Christmas bells, Christmas trees, and big stars along the way.
Sugar candy sticks will be set in 50 spots. LED lights and neon lights will brighten the trees in the city. Colourful photo points will also be set up at specified spots.
