thiruvananthapuram: the confederation of human rights organisations has demanded a white paper on the quantum of criminal cases withdrawn by the successive kerala governments since 1996. the human rightist, mukundan menon said, the recent withdrawal of six criminal cases involving muslim league workers in kozhikode and similar withdrawal in kasargode raised questions on the manner in which the government of the day manages the police and law and order. chief minister a.k. antony himself has said that he had recommended withdrawal of many cases involving cpm. his plea that withdrawal of cases at the recommendations of the law department was a routine affair did not make the matter light. the erstwhile cpm-led left front too had rescinded numerous criminal cases and the government must come out with a white paper on this issue, said menon. he said law and order was not something to be used to settle political scores and the police should not be used to intimidate poltical rivals.
