Man arrested for attempting to murder wife

Thiruvananthapuram: Police arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly attempting to murder his wife with a knife following a family dispute at their rented house in Karimatham Colony, Poojappura.

According to Poojappura police, the incident occurred during an argument between the couple. The accused Sanalkumar allegedly repeatedly assaulted his wife Remiya by striking her on her head and face and later attacked her with a knife. The woman sustained injuries in the assault and was admitted to the general hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.

Based on the victim’s complaint, Poojappura police registered a case and launched an investigation. The accused was traced and taken into custody soon after the incident.

Police said Sanalkumar is a rowdy history-sheeter and has a criminal record. He is involved in seven cases registered at Poojappura, Fort, Karamana and Malayinkeezhu police stations. The cases include offences related to drug abuse, assault and other criminal activities.

Following his arrest, he was produced before a court which remanded him to judicial custody.

Police said further investigation is under way.
