THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday tweeted Vishu greetings to Malayalis celebrating the new year as per the Malayalam calendar, on Monday.
In his official twitter handle @rashtrapatibhvn, the President wished happiness, peace and prosperity to all Malayali families around the world.
He similarly extended Vaisakhi, Mesadi, Rongali Bihu, Naba Barsha, Vaisakhadi and Puthandu Pirappu greetings to people in other parts of the country.

Though the wish came a day ahead, lot of twitter users welcomed the gesture.
Governor P Sathasivam and chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan too extended their Vishu greetings to the people. “May this harvest festival herald a season of affluence and bless everyone with peace, harmony and prosperity throughout the year,” the governor said.
The chief minister said that the attempts to revive the farming sector after the floods is bearing fruit. “This gives a lot of hope. Record yield is reported in Kuttanad and Palakkad this year. May Vishu energize our efforts to improve agriculture and protect nature,” he said.
Various political parties also send Vishu greeting cards with pictures of ‘konnapoo’ (golden shower flowers), their party symbols and names of their candidates to people in a bid to woo voters in the backdrop of the general elections. Several party volunteers were seen distributing konnapoo of cost to the voters.
Hundreds of devotees are expected to witness Vishukani at Sabarimala temple between 4am and 9am on Monday. Temple will close after this month’s rituals on April 19. Guruvayoor Sri Krishna temple too witnesses heavy rush on the Vishu day.
