PWD minister announces sponsorship scheme for beautification of bridges and junctions
Thiruvananthapuram: Public works minister P K Basheer announced a new sponsorship scheme for the beautification of bridges and junctions.
The initiative will involve installing lights and planters on bridges and enhancing junctions with the support of companies and residents. Guidelines will be prepared to allow sponsors to advertise, and a system will be set up to enable the department to directly utilize these funds, the minister stated.
Basheer was speaking at a meeting with senior officials, chief engineers and heads of institutions.
An adalat will be organized to expedite the resolution of promotions and disciplinary actions for public works department officials. “Projects that can be included in the 100-day action plan, soon to be announced by the chief minister, should be submitted promptly. Road maintenance should be completed on a war footing before Sabarimala pilgrimage season. Inspections required before the monsoon should be implemented accurately,” he added.
“Officials and contractors should work together to implement public works transparently, timely and effectively. The department, which plays a crucial role in infrastructure development, will move forward with full trust in its officials and contractors. Govt holds no preconceived notions that contractors and officials are corrupt,” the minister said.
