thiruvananthapuram: with the government and opposition sticking to their guns, the stand-off in the kerala assembly continued for the 11th day today after an effort to resolve the crisis triggered by suspension of three ldf mlas proved abortive. the cpm led ldf opposition on monday refrained from disrupting the question hour, though they declined to ask questions when their turn came.
the post-zero hour proceedings, however, failed to take off with the government rejecting the demand that the house be adjourned for a while to discuss the suspension issue. responding to cpm deputy leader kotiyeri balakrishnan's patch-up proposal, chief minister a k antony said the government would consider cutting short the suspension period of the three members provided the opposition cooperated with the proceedings till the speaker found a suitable time to hold parleys with the floor leaders. with antony disfavouring the idea of adjournment, the opposition rushed to the well of the house forcing speaker vakkom purushothaman to rush through the day's business and adjourn the house several hours ahead of schedule. the house has been virtually paralysed since october 18 following the suspension of m v jayarajan and raju abraham (cpm) and p s supal (cpi) for the rest of the session for their alleged role in trying to mandhandle transport minister k b ganesh kumar.
