20 yrs RI, 25-yr jail for 2 men in separate Pocso Act cases

A 22-year-old man was convicted of sexually assaulting a minor girl and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. A 61-year-old man was convicted of sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl and was sentenced to 5 years in prison. The state government was ordered to pay a victim compensation of 5 lakh to the girl the man kidnapped.

Trichy: A mahila court in Trichy on Friday convicted a 22-year-old man for sexually assaulting a minor girl and handed out 20 years rigorous imprisonment for him.
N Selvamani of Tharanallur area was convicted by sessions judge N S Srivathsan for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl. He will also pay a fine of 5,000, serve five more years of rigorous imprisonment and pay 2,000 for kidnapping the girl.

The punishments will have to be served concurrently.
The judge also directed the state government to pay a victim compensation of 5 lakh to the girl.
Selvamani kidnapped the girl on March 16, 2022 and sexually assaulted her at his house. After the child developed health issues, the girl was admitted her to hospital where the crime came to light. The all women police station (AWPS), Fort booked Selvamani under Pocso Act and arrested him.
In another judgment, a mahila court in Ariyalur sentenced a youth to 25 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl on the pretext of marrying her. The convict was identified as A Sakthivel, 21, from a village near Thirumanur .
Sakthivel had been forcing the 15-year-old girl to get into a relationship with him. In July 2020, he took her to a secluded spot and sexually assaulted her.
A complaint was lodged by the girl’s family after she was found three months pregnant. Ariyalur AWPS registered a case and arrested Sakthivel. The case was under trial at Ariyalur mahila court which found the accused guilty. He was lodged at the Trichy Central Prison.
