The first day saw 956 cases being registered while the second day ended with 1,662 cases.
The general public expressed displeasure over the action as many found it inconvenient to wear helmets, despite the risk in case of road accidents. Police, however stood their ground to go ahead with the crackdown and said the drive will be conducted on a daily basis.
During the raid, 46 cases of drunken driving were also registered. It may be recalled that Trichy city police had carried out an intensive vehicle check to crack down on drunken driving in Trichy in August this year. A four-day long drive had brought to light 380 cases of violation by two wheelers, four-wheelers and three-wheelers, who were driving under the influence of alcohol.
