67 rowdies arrested in two days in central region
Trichy: In a major crackdown on anti-social elements, the central zone police conducted a two-day special operation named ‘Operation Prevail' on May 20 and 21 to control the activities of history-sheeters and rowdies. A total of 67 rowdies were arrested across nine districts.According to officials, as many as 150 history-sheeters were summoned to various police stations for inquiry. Of these, 67 individuals were arrested and remanded in judicial custody. The arrests include 15 from Trichy, 13 from Ariyalur, 10 from Karur, eight from Mayiladuthurai, five each from Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Perambalur, four from Nagapattinam, and two from Pudukottai.Additionally, 23 history-sheeters were issued one-year bond after being warned and produced before authorities. Pudukottai recorded the highest number of bonds at five, followed by Tiruvarur (8), Thanjavur (5), Nagapattinam (3), and Karur (2).V Balakrishnan, inspector general of police, central zone directed all nine district superintendents of police to intensify surveillance on history-sheeters and take stringent legal action to maintain law and order in the region.
