Bomb threats to post office, passport office turn hoax

Trichy: The head post office and regional passport office in Trichy received bomb threat from an unidentified individual on Thursday. Bomb squads inspected both premises and dismissed the threat as hoax.

The head post office near Cantonment received an anonymous email around noon claiming explosives have been placed at the post office and regional passport office near Thillai Nagar.

The city police and bomb detection and disposal squad conducted an intensive search of both buildings with the help of sniffer dogs and bomb detection equipment. After a thorough search lasting several hours, the teams could not find any explosives or suspicious objects. The incident caused temporary panic and disruption in govt office complexes, with visitors and staff being evacuated during the search. Investigation is underway to trace the source of the hoax email.
