Durai Vaiko inspects locations for overbridges
TRICHY: Durai Vaiko, MP, along with Trichy railway division officials inspected locations in Udaiyanpatti, Poongudi and Inamkulathur on Tuesday to gauge the feasibility of building road overbridges (RoB). He promised action to prevent traffic congestion caused due to the railway level crossings.
The public have been demanding construction of RoBs for years at these places. Accompanied by social activists and representatives of political parties, Durai Vaiko interacted with railway staff at the level crossings and the public. "I learnt about the issues faced by vehicle users and students due to traffic congestion caused by gate closures. I will pursue the matter with Southern Railway in upcoming meetings about road over bridges required for the public," Durai Vaiko said.
The MP said railways has promised swift action and insisted the public cooperate with the ministry when works commence. While inspecting the crossing at Srirangam for a a road under bridge (RuB), officials explained that it was not feasible and suggested the construction of a mini RoB instead. Later, the MP visited Trichy railway station and saw the services available.
Earlier, in the morning, the MP told reporters at Trichy airport that he discussed with railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw regarding the requirement of new trains from Trichy to Ernakulam, Bengaluru and Tirupathi. Durai Vaiko said the minister assured him of a service between Trichy and Tirupathi. Asked about his withdrawal of resignation from MDMK's principal secretary post, Durai Vaiko said issues within his party have been laid to rest for the party's benefit. He denied any strain in relations between allies in the DMK alliance.
